Weather in Kreeta in March
If you decide to spend holidays in Crete in March, the first month of Spring, keep in mind that though the weather is improving, the sunny days outnumber those overcast, and the temperature during the day time is around 17-18°C, the sea is still cold and it is not advised to swim yet.
March in Crete, however, marks the change of the season, this is when the flowers start to bloom, the buds on the trees swell and the island begins to dress itself with green. Many hotels and restaurants in small villages are still not functioning, as the tourist season is yet to begin, but you can stay in one of the main cities and enjoy day trips exploring the island on a rented car.
It is perfect weather for long hikes, especially in the Samaria gorge. Don’t miss the celebration of the Ash Monday, Kathari Deytera, which marks the beginning of the Lent, when the sky is covered with colourful kites, flown by adults and children alike.
