The weather in Crete in February gets better, and though there are more sunny days and the rains become more rare, it is still unpredictable – one day may be clear and warm, followed by a cold, rainy day, after which the sun appears from the clouds. The weather fluctuates between 12 and 18 °C though it is advised to bring warm, thick coats and jackets.

Though in February there is still not much to do in Crete, you can experience a wonderful week before Lent which is celebrated in Greece in a fun way – it is called Apokries and there are dress-up parties in bars and clubs, as well as festive parades, where you can come dressed up as if it is Halloween. Don’t miss the Thursday before the Lent, as this is Tsiknopempti – the day when you eat a lot of meat, especially roasted lamb and goat. Greeks go to traditional tavernas at around 10pm and eat till late at night.
