Thousands of years old fossils imprinted on cave walls are animals that used to live in that area. El Llano Cave (Cueva del Llano), nested under the ground of La Oliva, unlocks an opportunity to get deep into the Earth’s heart. The cave has two channels made form a volcanic tube, million years old. The Northern tube is wider and it is long over 500 meters. This incredible journey will take you in the home of the only white living arachnid on the Earth.

Montaña Sagrada de Tindaya (the Sacred Mountain of Tindaya) is the only lofty formation in the north horizon of Fuerteventura, visible from any point. The conserved podomorphic (foot-shaped rock engravings) originate from aboriginal times. Over hundred engravings are witnesses proving the mysterious past of this mountain. Feel the enigmatic and pulsating energy from this sacred place as you touch the endless sky. Dare to believe that the mount Teide (highest volcano on Tenerife-the other island) is the devil’s residence. All the engravings are pointing to that direction.

Costa Calma, Morro Jable and Jandia beach have low waves and mild winds. Jandia Beach is 21km long with a lighthouse, endless white sand and turquoise water. The attractive beach Playa de Sotavento is near Jandia beach. On the other hand, Cofete beach is always with high waves and very windy. Quiet and small place with black sand and blue water is a perfect combination at Ajuy (black sand beach). Ajuy beach is not a decent place to swim, but rather to admire its natural beauty. The best beach on Fuerteventura is on Isla de los Lobos (Lobos Island). Swimming in turquoise water and lying on white sand is the loveliest thing to do on vacation.

If hiking mountains appears to be a tiring experience for you, try to hike sand dunes. Deserted dunes long 11 km belong to the National Park (Parque Natural de las Dunas de Corralejo). A protected dune area El Jable is located south of Corralejo. The main entrance to Corralejo is through its main attraction, the dunes. If you get bored from laying and sunbathing, Corralejo offers the best night life on the island. At the same time, the town is historic center with charming harbor, narrow streets and famous beach promenade. Adding to that, from Corralejo you can see Lanzarote.

Due to the climate, the island’s interior is like from another planet. The experience of driving through the island’s interior is like driving on the Moon. The volcanic landscape, high mountains, poor vegetation compile to that feeling. Even though the feeling is like being on another planet, the roads offer incredible view with many lookout stops. This would be a perfect place for some great photos. All you have to do is rent a car and hit the road.

Outstanding food dishes which are typical only for this region are the trademark of Fuerteventura. The most traditional is the seafood cuisine. Majorero fish prepared in a traditional way is top food to taste. Red or green pepper sauce (Mojo) is served as a side dish in most of the restaurants. Papas arrugado (unpeeled potato) cooked in a weird way with a lot of salt, yet it is quite yummy. Roasted Coat’s cheese, smoked or other flavor is absolutely delicious.

Mirador Morro Velosa is the only place high enough from where you can see the whole island. Let your eyes stroll and measure the space between mountains, valleys, dunes, and the Atlantic Ocean. The place is between Valle de Santa Ines and Betancuria, on the top of Tegu Mountain. On 600 meters elevation there is a big car park and a beautiful garden. The black beach Ajoy is the closes to this viewpoint.
