The Romer is more than a symbol of Frankfurt. This building has been the town hall of the city since 1405 and there is nothing better than visiting it to understand the story of the last 600 years of Frankfurt. Two halls of the 15th century (called Römerhalle and Schwanenhalle) remain nowadays virtually unchanged.

With its 95m high tower dominating the city center, the gothic cathedral of the city of Frankfurt is impossible to be missed. Although the church might be felt a bit ‘bare’, this is perfectly understandable as it was almost destroyed during WWII. On the other hand, visitors can climb the 325 stairs to the top of the belfry and enjoy the views of the center of Frankfurt.

Alte Oper is simply the old, authentic opera house destroyed during WWII and reopened in 1981 after being rebuilt and renovated. Since its opening, Alte Oper has gained an outstanding reputation for hosting world-class operas and concerts. For the ones who do not have a great share of time to spend in the city, it is recommended to have a stroll there at night because the building is amazing while illuminated.

During a clear day it is highly recommended spending some time at the Main Tower, the 4th tallest building in Germany with an observation deck situated at 200m. The complex is opened till 10 pm to let visitors admire the futuristic skyline of the city by night.

Visiting the Stadel museum takes much time, so be sure to plan accordingly. An impressive collection of paintings, sculptures and drawings are exposed, encompassing the whole Western Art in the last 5 centuries.

This botanical garden is interesting in any season and can be fascinating even in winter, as it features greenhouses with tropical plants. The Palmengarten offers a pleasant distraction from business or can be a lovely destination for couples and families.

This outdoor shopping area gives lot of opportunity for eating and shopping while contrasts between old and new buildings can be observed. Hauptwache is also the starting point of the Christmas fair.

Frankfurt was heavily struck by WWII and the house where Goethe spent his youth was ruined as well by allied bombings. Thanks to the inventories left by Goethe’s father and mother, the house was restored in 1954 as it had been, thus allowing visitors to think and feel as the writer lived at his time.

The museum of natural history of Frankfurt is capable to entertain adults and children. Dinosaurs lovers will surely by amazed by the museum, thanks to extensive displays of dinosaurs (including the t-rex) and fossils.

The Frankfurt Stock Exchange ranks among the most important stock markets in the world and is definitely a must-see for architecture junkies and anyone who works in the financial sector.
