1. Diocletian’s Palace
This exceptionally well preserved palace, commissioned by Diocletian 1700 years ago, is the center piece of Split and one of the most important Roman sites in the world. Declared a World Heritage Site since 1979, the palace includes also two Egyptian sphinxes that are thought to be over 3500 years old. Consider visiting the place as part of a guided tour as many things can be missed.
2. Croatian National Theater
The National Theater of Split is one of the most important in Southeast Europe, hosting several hundreds of shows every year, including operas and ballets. The building is also remarkable, with both interiors and exteriors built in Austro-Hungarian style but peppered by Soviet influences.
3. Beaches
Thanks to its location, Split is blessed with several beautiful and clean public beaches. One should not worry about the water temperature, which is pretty warm throughout the summer; along with swimming and sunbathing, people can recreate themselves renting boats or yachts.
4. Hvar Island
Hvar Island makes a great day trip from Split as it is easily reachable by ferry (the journey takes approximately 2 hours). The island features medieval fortifications, a huge old square, gothic buildings, cozy beaches and vibrant nightlife.

Widely considered one of the most important sculptors of the last century, Ivan Mestrovic realized an impressive number of art works during his life and some of them are conserved in this museum in Split. 6. Archaeological Museum
Split features quite a few interesting museums and the archaeological one is surely worth a visit. The museum focuses mainly on prehistoric, classical and medieval ages artifacts (including weapons, coins, jewels, etc.) used by our ancestors in everyday life.
7. Krka National Park
Although this enchanting national park is located 90 km far from Split, it can be quickly reached thanks to the A1 motorway, which runs along the park. Krka is famous for its waterfalls and monasteries. There are several organized tours from Split but renting a car might give you more freedom.
8. Froggyland
This one-of-a-kind attraction was established by Ferenc Mere, a taxidermy artist who stuffed more than 500 frogs in the early 20th century and arranged them as if they were carrying out human activities. The place is suitable for children and adults alike.
9. Cathedral of Saint Domnius
The Cathedral of Saint Domnius is one of the oldest cathedrals in the world being contemporary to the Diocletian’s Palace. It is possible to climb up the bell tower for enjoying beautiful views over the streets of Split.
10. Marjan
Marjan is a 178 m tall hill that rewards its climbers with a great panorama over the city of Split and the sea. Characterized by pine forests, several sport facilities are also located on the hill including rock climbing.
